All parties meeting discusses Electricity crisis


Chitral -- An All Parties meeting was chaired by the DCO  to discuss the grave electricity problem faced by Chitral town. Heads of political parties members of Electricity Restoration Committee and WAPDA and SHYDO officials  attended the meeting. District Coordination Officer Chitral, Rehmat Ullah Wazir explained the situation and his efforts to solve the problems. Various suggestions came up in the context.. Participants were of the unanimous view that mismanagement of the available electric power is the main and immediate reason for the crisis. They opined that besides planning long term measures immediate check on mismanagement should be ensured.


Chairman Electricity Restoration Committee Wg Cdr (r) Fardad Ali Shah suggested to empower the committee to pay surprise checks on reported fudged meters particularly those of  the WAPDA employees which was agreed to by the DCO who assured the provision of a Tehsildar and SHO to the committee to carry out the checks. The meeting also decided to make efforts to educate the people to use energy savers instead of incandescent bulbs and switch off extra lights particularly external lights. DCO said he would make efforts to provide rebated energy saver bulbs. He also informed the meeting that the Norwegian funded NGO 'Thrive' would soon launch a project for solar electrification of Chitral town.--(CN report, 22 July 10).
