PPP Sherpao public meeting in Drosh. A public meeting of PPP Sherpao was held in Drosh presided over by Abdul Wali Khan Advocate. Those who spoke included party Gen Secy Bakht Baidar Khan,zahir Khan, Irshad Mukarrar, Abdul Hameed advocate. Kalasha valleys activities:  Franch-Kalashamis in collaboration with NDMP an initiative of KPDN has started water mills reconstruction project funded under the component of NDMP CRR. Franch-Kalashamis is an association and a group working as friends of Kalash in France. The project has started work on two water mills in Mumuret, three in Rukmu and one in Biriu valley. No Electricity for 27 hours in Chitral town: Electricity crisis has again raised its ugly head in Chitral town. Parts of the town including Jang bazaar are without electricity for the last 27 hours continuously at Sunday evening-- (GH Farooqi, 21 Nov 10)

OCWA awards  students:  Overseas Chitrali Welfare Association Dubai (OCWA).gave away prizes to students at a function in Chitral. Ummi Habiba d/o Abdul Malik student of Decent College Chitral won first prize of 30000 Rs and shield who secured 918 marks in F.Sc annual examination out of 1100 total marks.  Anam Ambareen d/o Esa Muhammad student of G.D. Langland School & College was given second prize of 20000 and shield who secured 887 marks in F.SC and Khadija Hina Mastor d/o Nazir Hussain was given third prize of 15000 (Rs who is a student of Langland college. --(GH Farooqi, 15 Nov 10)

Folklore societies in three Chitral schools: The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) has established Children Folklore Societies in three schools in Chitral and Kalash valley under Joint Institutional Cooperation between Pakistan and Norway. Moulana Sher Aziz elected JI Amir: Moulana Sher Aziz has been elected district Amir Jamaat Islami in a closely guarded electoral process, which is a distinguishing feature of the JI.  He has held this post earlier also. --(CN report)

Four killed in Jeep crash at Avi: Four persons were killed and five injured when a jeep part of a wedding procession going from Avi to Morder crashed into the river at Avi lasht. Those who died include Momin, his wife,  Sanaullah and Zhorini bibi.Names of the injured are Mumtaz Hussain, Aslam, Ali Noor,Shakir and noor Bahadur. --GH Farooqi, 05 Nov 10)

Asma to visit Chitral again: Provincial President women's wing PPP, Asma Alamgir, who is also an advisor to the PM  is likely to visit Chitral shortly it was learnt here. --(CN report, 03 Nov 10)

Honour for Pamir school, Garam Chashma:  A student of Pamir Public School Garam Chashma has been awarded Fullbright scholarship for higher studies for excellent results. The student, Israr Hakim, studied in Pamir upto class 9th and then moved to Islamabad with his elder brother Khisraw Hakim, another meritorious student of Pamir who recently passed out from GIK as Mechanical Engineer. Israr Hakim hails from Siwaht, Shoghore and his father is Principal of GHS Shoghore. His youngest brother Ejaz Hakim is also a brilliant student of Pamir who also moved to Islamabad this year and is sure to bring laurels to his family and alma mater.--(CN rep[ort, 16 Oct 10)

Three kidnapees released: Remaining three of the eight people kidnapped by Taliban were released by the captors. Out of the eight kidnapees eight were slaughtered by their captors and their headless bodies thrown in the jungle with a note that any body collaborating with the security forces would meet same fate.--(GH Farooqi, 02 Oct 10)

Anwarul Mujahid Shah gets BS-18  Anwarul Mujahid Shah has been appointed in BS-18 as a lecturer of sociology in the Department of sociology Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan as a regular faculty member. Bye pass road inauguration awaited: Residents of Chitral town are eagerly awaiting the long overdue and direly required  inauguration of Chitral Bazaar Byepass road.for which the money has been allocated, and ground work completed but physical acquisition of the land is yet to be undertaken. CM is expected to inaugurate the project but whenever and if ever it takes off. No body is sure for now  --(CN report)

IRUP provides assistance:  Integrated Rural Uplift Programe, a local community based organization, on the occasion of Eid provided food rations to 33 families in Drosh and Chitral..  Each family was provided food stuff of Rs. 1500/-. Beheaded bodies found in Arandu Jungle: Three beheaded bodies of persons reportedly from from Dok Darra Dir who had

Utility stores fail to deliver in Chitral: Utility Stores Corporation a govt funded public sector corporation, famous for its corrupt practices has kept up it's reputation by failing to deliver any utility item during Ramzan and during the flood crisis. On query the employees say that people should demand more funds for the corporation from govt but people believe the USC will eat up those funds even and still not deliver anything to the public. One abducted labourer escapes: One of the abducted labourers from amongst the ten who were abducted three days back by Afghan militants, from the Bumburet valley, has escaped from the clutches of his abductors during a prayer break reportedly. .The escapee is in the custody of Chitral police. --(CN report, 31 Aug 10)

Food Aid distributed: Dist Admin with facilitation of CESSD, a CIDA funded project, distributed food rations among 22 flood affected families in Jutilasht village. PPP, ANP office bearers air differences: Local PPP and ANP office bearers addressed separate press conferences at the press club, in opposition to each other. Diesel transferred from Chitral to Gilgit: Six thousand liters of diesel have been transported from Chitral to neighboring Ghizer in Gilgit KP province, due to acute shortage there. Water not yet restored to Chitral town:  Drinking water supply to Chitral town from the Angarghhoon springs has not yet

been  restored  even after 19 days of the pipe line being damaged by flood. The water supply dept gives false information  about the expected time of restoration thus confusing the consumers.--(CN report, 26 Aug 10).

Langlands honoured with Hilal e Imtiaz: Major GD  Langlands, the British nonagenarian principal of the Langlands School & College Chitral, has been awarded with  the coveted Hilal e Imtiaz medal for his services in the Education sector, announced on the 14 Aug  Independence day --(CN report,15 Aug 10)

DCO checks hoarders:  DCO Chitral along with police contingent paid a surprise check on the godown of prominent trader Haji Musafir Khan and unearthed large number of Ghee tins which were given off to the people at normal rates. It may be noted that edibles have become scarce in Chitral bazaar while people believe big traders are hoarding them and selling them at inflated prices. Whereas people have appreciated the step by the administration but complained that such isolated checks are not enough. It should be a daily routine of the administration to ensure that hoarding and profiteering does not prevail in the markets of Chitral. --(CN report, 14 Aug 10)

Father,Son washed away by river: A father and son were swept away by the flooding Chitral river at Balach while trying to retrieve logwood from it. Jafar was a driver in the health department while his son Ghaffar was a second year college student.--(GH Farooqi, 31 July 10)

Commandant CS thanked for relief goods: Prominent social worker Abdul Khaliq and people of the area have thanked the commandant Chitral Scouts Col Zafar Iqbal for distributing relief goods on behalf of the IGFC,  amongst affectees of recent Uchusht floods. Condolence offered for Mian Rashid: A meeting was held at ANP office Chitral to condole the death of Mian Iftikhar Hussain's son Rashid. Presided by Haji Sher Agha, the meeting condemned acts of terrorism and termed it inhuman and Un- Islamic in every way. Fazl criticises Govt, USA: Amir Jamiat Ulema e Islam Pakistan Moulana Fazl ur Rehman  lashed out at the United states and the government of Pakistan for toeing the US line which is detrimental to the interest of Muslims said he. Munawar criticises Govt, USA: Amir Jamat Islami Pakistan Syed Munawar Hassan lashed out at the United states and the

Qari Faizullah awards: Qari Faizullah awards amounting to total one Lac rupees for 2010 would be given to top three Matric passed students each from govt and private schools, within the district. in the first week of August. No respite in Electricity crisis :  Despite peak tourist and business season, electricity problem is getting worse by the day in Chitral town. Meanwhile members of the Electricity Restoration Committee have demanded of the WAPDA authorities to mend their ways and provide available electricity to the town including activation of the diesel generators meant for the purpose. They said instead of improvement, the condition is worsening by the day, pointing to plans by unknown hands to pitch the people against the sitting government, while elected representatives are acting as silent onlookers.--(CN report, 14 July 10)

Electricity problem worsens in town: Electricity problem in Chitral town has worsened. Long and frequent load shedding in Chitral bazaar has puzzled traders and causing much economic loss to the people beside inconvenience at this peak hot season. Consumers have demanded restarting of diesel generators and streamlining the electricity supply system. --(Firdaus )

Shandur Polo festival concludes  Shandur polo festival concluded with the final match between Shandur Club and Lowari club in which the Shandur club beat the later by 12 goals to 1. Captain Shandur club Shahzada Sikander Ul Mulk received the trophy from Chief guest KP minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain. Provincial minister Salim Khan presented welcome address while Provincial Tourism Minister Aqil Shah, MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin and MPA Ghulam Muhammad also addressed. the gathering during half time.--(CN report)

Zhorh ma khosh phishmak ma deesh: ژوڑ ما خوش پھشماک ما دش   Federal Minister for Tourism, Moulana Ata ur Rehman belonging to the JUI, said the govt was toeing the US line and has failed to deliver. He said the JUI  was part of the govt to stop it from anti Islamic activities. He was addressing party workers at the Shahi Mosque Chitral. --(CN report)

Two girls drown in a pond: Two young girls Murshida 14 and Rafia 12 daughters of Noor Muhammad were playing near a pond at Dolomuts, when one slipped and fell into the pond. The other sister also jumped in the water to save her sister. As a result both lost their lives. Local volunteers recovered their dead bodies from the pool. --(GH Farooqi, 30 June 10)

Toyota jeep falls into river: A Toyota jeep fell into Chitral river near chew bridge. Eye witnesses saw the jeep flying off the road into the river and drowning. Details of casualties are awaited.--(GH Farooqi, 27 June 10)

Two die in Torkhow road accident:  A Toyota Jeep met with an accident in Shagram Torkhow near Village SheerJully, while coming back from Chitral on a Routine trip. The Toyota was laden with fire wood and two persons was on board who died on the spot due to severe head injuries. Both the deceased belonged to Shagram area.--(Dr Saeed Ahmad, 27 June 10)

Four year boy survives vicious flood: جسسے اللہ رکھےاسےکون چکھے  June 26,2010: A four year old boy survived despite being swept one kilometer by the ravaging flood which killed thirteen people in Chitral town on Thursday. The boy lost his mother, father, brother and sister in the same sweep but himself came out unscathed. Similarly a dog and a rooster came out of the rubble of a house alive when every thing else perished.--(Mashriq)

OCWA announces Rupees one lac aid for flood affected: 26 June 10:  Overseas Chitralis Welfare Association Dubai, has announced an amount of Rs. one Lakh aid for the flood victims of Uchusht village of Chitral town. The amount will be distributed soon by the reps of OCWA it was stated in Dubai.--(Jalauddin Ahmed

Students to avail travel discount: CSWO has announced that they have succesfully negotiated a 20 percent discount for students travelling from Islamabad to Chitral in Coasters. President Saiful Islam, Gen Secy Asghar Ali and SVP Salim negotiated the concession with Crystal Lines coaster MD Usman Ali. Scouts lift CM polo trophy: 17 June 10: Chitral Scouts team lifted the Chief Minister polo trophy by beating Mastuj 10-1 in a thrilling final match at the Chitral polo ground witnessed by a large number of polo fans. Shahzad Ahmad of Chitral Scouts was declared the 'man of the match'. Chief minister who was expected could not come due to bad weather. Popcorn machine burst kills one: 17 June 10:  A popcorn machine burst killed one person and injured another in Istangol village about 20 km north of Chitral town. --(Muhkamuddin)

CSWO  oath ceremony  15 June 10: CSWO (Chitral Students Welfare Organisation) cabinet oath taking ceremony was held in Islamabad. MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin administered oath to newly elected president Saiful Islam and his cabinet. Qazi Fazal Illahi was nominated patron of the organisation. Beside former presidents, Ex MNA Nawabzada Salahuddin, Qari Buzarg Shah Al Azhari, a large number of Chitralis were present. --(Ali Munir) 

Chitrali girl dies mysteriously in Abbottabad  12 June 10: A girl named Asmaan Pari resident of of Shishi Koh died within one month of her marriage to one Irshad of Abbottabad. .In laws of the girl say that she died due to illness while parents of the girl claim  that her in-laws murdered her. OCWA announces scholarships:  11 June 10: Overseas Chitralis Welfare Association Dubai, has announced scholarship program for Chitral based students of science category. Rs 30, 20 and 15 thousand will be awarded to the first three position holders respectively in intermediate exams this year.--(Jalaluddin Ahmed)

Drosh rally demands release of Gujjar leaders:  11 June 10 A protest rally cum public meeting was held at Drosh bazaar. demanding release of Gujar community leaders Inzar Gul and Sher Muhammad arrested on charges of being involved in firing incident on MNA few days back. The meeting presided over by Qazi Abdul Rauf was addressed by Alhaaj Khurshid Ali Khan, Muhammad Shifa, Abdul Bari, Abdul Saboor, Mufti Mahmood, Noor Hameed,etc --(GH Farooqi)

Firing on MNA condemned:  08 June 10 A meeting of elders, workers PML(Q) and family members of MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin was held in Drosh in which they condemned attack on the MNA few days back terming it an act of terror. They demanded immediate arrest of the attackers. --(CN report)

Major Khush Ahmed honoured: 08 June 10  Shahzada Major  Khush Ahmed Ul Mulk's contribution towards protection of environment and promulgation and promotion of horticulture was acknowledged by the KP government. Two booked under anti terrorism law: 06 June 10  Two persons Inzar Gul and former Nazim Sher Muhammad leaders of Gujjar community in Shishi koh valley,were booked under anti terrorism act,after firing incident on the MNA in the valley few days back. MNA survives land dispute firing : 03 June 10   MNA Chitral Shahzada Mohiuddin escaped unhurt, when his room where he was staying in Shishi Kooh valley was fired upon.. The MNA had gone to the area along with the concerned officials and a  police contingent to take possession of land  and forest which he had won in the supreme court. litigation and the firing was carried out by the rival party who are Gujars.. --(GH Farooqi)

School bus topples, injuring  students : 31 May 2010:  Bus carrying students of the Langlands school fell  of the road while going to school at Dolomuts Monday. A number of students were injured, luckily none seriously.--(CN report)

Bazar bypass road plan to be actualized 30 May 2010: Administrative action for acquiring land for Chitral Bazaar Bypass road has begun with imposition of section 4 and 5 of land acquisition act.. Meeting a delegation of affected land owners including Wg Cdr (r) Fardad Ali Shah, Maj (r) Ahmad Saeed, former Nazim Riaz Ahmad, Aliyar Khan etc, DCO Chitral assured that fair and transparent procedure would be adopted for land acquisition and the road would be made to the  highest standards. Chitrali Officer Promoted as Colonel: 25 May 2010: Lieutenant Colonel Khush Muhammad Khan of Chitral has been promoted to the rank of Colonel in the Pakistan Army as a result of the recently held officers’ selection board at the General Headquarters Rawalpindi.--(CN report)

Weight gain medicines usage increases dangerously:  20 May 2010 The use of weight gain medicines is increasing alarmingly specially amongst the youth in Chitral. Found in many medicine, general and homeopathic stores, these unbranded powders and pills contain harmful steroids which wreck the health after giving it a temporary boost. --(AM Khan)

Women rights seminar in Brep:  18 May 2010.A one day seminar on women rights in property was organised by LAPH and YDCO. Woolies out in Chitral, as country sizzles:  16 May 2010.  Jerseys and jackets were pulled out in Chitral town after a short rain spell on Sunday, when the southern parts of the country were sizzling at 50 degrees centigrade in places. In Kafristan valley where many tourists have gathered to witness the closing day of Kalash Chilam Jusht festival, the temperature was really cold. Two die in Shishikooh Jeep fall:  10 May 2010 Two persons died and nine were injured when a jeep going from Drosh to Madaklasht toppled at Shishikooh. Those dead were identified as Ameer Shah s/o Qalandar Shah of Madaklasht and Kotani s/o Rashid of Shishikooh. One killed over water: 07 May 2010 One person Abdur Rehman r/o Maskor Ayun was killed by neighbours over a water dispute. Police arrested Noor Muhammad, Mahmood Khan and Muhammad Nawaz, for the murder --(GH Farooqi)

Three die in road mishap: 06 May 10:Three persons died while another four were injured as a jeep fell into the river at Damel Arandu. The dead were identified as driver Muhammad Zubair and Jameel residents of Dir, whose bodies were recovered from the river while body of Rahmat Wali resident of Kotai is still missing. the injured are Nadir Khan and Nawab Khan both of Dargai,Bakht Mohammad of Malakand and Syed Ibad of Arandu.--(GH Farooqi)

Load shedding curse, on again: 03 May 10: Unannounced loadshedding stretching upto many (undefined) hours continuously has again struck Chitral after a month long respite due to running the diesel generators at the power house. As summer is approaching and power requirement is going to increase, People have demanded resumption of diesel generators operations and immediate commissioning of the dual line conjoining the Reshun power & national grid power to the town, which has been laid, but awaiting operations.--(CN report)
Shandur pass opens for light traffic: 29 Apr 10 Shandur pass road passing over 12000 ft and connecting Chitral with Gilgit ,has opened for light traffic, official sources said Thursday. --(GH Farooqi)
New Division demand presented in the Assembly: 28 Apr 10 Resolution demanding a new Division, comprising Chitral, Dir Upper and Dir Lower Districts has been presented in the KP (Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa) Assembly. Chitralis demand tunnel immediate opening: 28 Apr 10 As no work is going on on inside the Lowari tunnel it is cruel to keep it closed for traffic and condemn travelers to dredge extra three hours of worlds most torturous route over 10500, by being denied the usable tunnel for no worldly reason except antipathy towards peoples problems. Chitralis have demanded from the Govt and NHA to immediately open the tunnel for traffic and keep it open until work inside the tunnel actually resumes. --(CN report)

Poor internet service irks users: 23 Apr 10: PTCL internet service has deteriorated grossly and slow browsing and frequent disconnection problems have increased lately. Lawyers protest province renaming 13 Apr 10: lawyers of District Bar association Chitral staged a rally and protest meeting against renaming of the province. Body of avalanche victim retrieved after two months. 28 Mar 10: Dead body of Muhammad Din resident of Dir who had died under avalanche in Ziarat on February 15 along with 6 other persons was recovered on Sunday. Restaurants fleecing travelers 24 Mar 10:Way side restaurants are known to fleece passengers with connivance of public transport drivers. One such case is at Moroi on Chitral-Mastuj road, where public transport drivers stop their vehicles at 'Canal View' restaurant and hungry passengers have no option but to eat there. Taking undue advantage, the restaurant management provides substandard food at high prices. There should be a check from the govt side on prices and standard of food served in these road side restaurant.--(RA Chitrali)
Two Indian illegals arrested : 24 Mar 10: Two Indian citizens namely Ayaz Ahmad s/o Hafizullah r/o Mumbai and Nasir Ahmad s/o Munawwar Khan r/o Gujrat India were arrested by Chitral police for being here without requisite visa documents etc. DPO Chitral confirmed the arrests. Chitral Police included in Special Allowance beneficiaries : 21 Mar 10: MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin at a press conference in Peshawar said the nwfp Govt has included Chitral in the category of recipients of Special Allowance for police force which means an SP would get Rs 6000, DSP 5500, Inspector 5000, SI 4500, ASI 4000 and Constable 3000 per month extra.along with their Salaries. --(CN report)

Stray dogs multiply in Chitral city: 18 Mar 10: Stray dogs are multiplying in the bazaar area of Chitral town due to negligence of the concerned authorities to eliminate them. 'Loaners' happy with PM announcement: 15 Mar 10: Prime Ministers revised economic package for NWFP envisages the write off of loans including micro finance loans in four districts including Chitral. Islamabad-Chitral bus service:10 Mar 10. A 22 seater coaster service from Islamabad to Chitral has started from Islamabad (Karachi company). Traders union protests Electricity crisis: Chitral  26 Feb,2010: Traders Union Chitral launched a protest campaign by announcing three day shutter down strike in Chitral town Bazaar. Snow leopard devours goats, hunts Markhor: 18 Feb,2010: A snow leopard has hunted a Markhor at the Tooshi game reserve in the outskirts of Chitral town. as reported by the wild life department. Mean while locals told Chitral News that the sow leopard has also devoured two goats in the area. Unprecedented snow at this time of the year has brought down wild life including Chakors to lower altitudes, in search of food. --(CN report)

Lowari road reopens: 11 Feb 10: Snow slide at the southern side of the Lowari tunnel kept the road closed for three days, was reopened on Thursday. Meanwhile Chitralis have demanded an increase in Tunnel opening timings to six hours daily from 10 am to 6 pm. and seven days a week without any break.--(GH Farooqui)

Chitrali boy amongst six arrested in Lahore?: 09 Feb 10: A Chitrali boy Mohyuddin alias Saifullah is amongst six persons arrested in Lahore for allegedly planning to blow up a five star hotel. However the boy alleged as the 'would be suicide bomber' in the group, was shown on TV, but did not appear much Chitrali by his appearance and accent.--(CN report)
Heavy snow paralyses Chitral: 08 Feb 10: Rain starting Friday evening turned into heavy snowfall and by Monday morning whole of the district stands paralyzed. Roads leading to Upper Chitral and side valleys stand blocked. Electricity as usual is nowhere to be seen and telephone and mobile services are disrupted. People are confined to their houses and no traffic can be seen in Chitral Bazar. There is no contingency plan with any government or non government organisation to deal with such situation which is becoming too common with climatic summersaults.--(CN report).

Rain, Snow, again, Electricity goes again: 07 Feb 10: Rainfall in Chitral again starting Friday night turning into snowfall Sunday morning in Chitral town, has severed electricity line coming over the Lowari pass since the first few drops of rainfall.. It is ironical that every year (the inconvenience not withstanding) money spent on maintaining this line is enough to upgrade the Chitral town electric station. or even construct a new one. At the first few drops of rainfall the electricity line coming from down country to Chitral (bringing coal to New castle) breaks down and then there is complete power denial to the town for the next days/weeks.--(CN report)
