Another Year Ushers in, Lowari Tunnel Remains Incomplete

Chitral: Another year has arrived and Chitralis are still waiting for the day when the Lowari tunnel will be declared complete and travel through it allowed in a decent manner as is the practice every where else with tunnels. In an age when tunnels are built from scratch to finish in one year, the ?legendary? Lowari tunnel remains incomplete even after one and a half year of it?s inauguration by the then Prime minister. While inaugurating the tunnel on 20 July 2017, the then Prime minister Nawaz Sharif said 99 percent work on the tunnel was complete and it is ready for use 24 hours a day. Unfortunately even after one and half year since the inauguration ceremony, the tunnel remains closed for 9 hours a day and there is no word on when the one percent remaining work is going to get completed and traffic allowed 24 hours a day through it.
The handling and management of the Lowari tunnel is a glaring example of poor governance and lack of accountability in Pakistan.?.. CN report, 02 Jan 2019
