World now accepting marijuana; Pakistan can benefit from it!
11 Nov, 2018
The world is taking an about-turn on Marijuana. Where the possession and usage of the drug was considered a severe offense, now it is being generously accepted. Uruguay and Canada have allowed it to be used for recreational purposes.
In Australia, Puerto Rico, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia and Macedonia it is legal for medicinal purposes in some form, and in Turkey you are allowed to cultivate it for personal medical use. In Uruguay, Spain, Slovenia, Netherlands, Jamaica, Columbia and Chile cannabis is legal or decriminalized in some form. The US states of Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington also have relaxed drug laws.
The northern areas of Pakistan have ideal soil and climate for production of best quality cannabis or Marijuana or Weed, whatever we may call it. In the late sixties and early seventies when hippy culture was common around the world and when laws on cannabis were not strict in Pakistan, the underground drug markets of Amsterdam would proudly sell ‘Chitral Special’ brand of cannabis which was most precious amongst others in the stores.
Now that the world is opening up in many ways, the Pakistan government should consider legalizing the cultivation of cannabis and exporting it to earn foreign exchange. As it is, use of cannabis (chars) is common in Pakistan and by banning it only the black marketeers benefit. If it is legalized and tax imposed on it will be better. This will also discourage the use of Heroin which is far more detrimental to human health but is easier to get in the market. .. Sharif Ahmad, Chitral 11 Nov 2018
