Chitral — The Lowari pass road crossing over 10500 ft has been declared open for traffic, at least two months ahead of the usual opening time. Primary reason being unusually little snow fall this winter. However the pass remains extremely dangerous as frozen snow on the road can anytime cause a vehicle to slip and fall hundreds of feet into the ravine. Besides, there is a constant threat of snow slides and avalanches, as happen at this time of the year.
The tunnel opening time of twice a week for a few hours is insufficient and therefore hard pressed travelers are being forced to travel over the Lowari pass at the peril of their lives.
