Chitralis; Easy prey for Con Men

News reports regarding abscondment of the managers of a company called Biznas dot com which had collected membership fees from Chitralis at the rate of Rs 3600 per head making a heist of Rs five million in a short span of few months should serve as an eye opener for all of us.

This is not the first time that swindlers have operated in Chitral with audacious impunity, but surprising is the fact that we haven’t learned any lesson from our own or other’s mistakes.

Chitralis by nature are simple and gullible people who have been exploited time and again by Con Men in the garb of Politicians, Social workers, NGO operators , even Contractors and the like.

If we try to find out the reasons for this functional limitation in our lives, we shall find ‘poverty’ as the biggest culprit which when crosses a limit weakens people to an extent that they easily fall prey to such lures.

Not seeing avenues to increase their income through adequate employment / business opportunities, Chitralis specially the young generation is falling to exploitative illusions like the one under discussion.

In order to make the people aware of the realities of life they must be provided opportunities to receive not only formal school education but they must also be given the basic facilities of life like freedom of communication, opportunities of employment and prospects of doing a reasonable business etc. Only then can they be expected to think confidently, analyze situations objectively and rationalise temptations which are likely to harm them.
