Snowfall paralyses Chitral

Chitral -- Continuous snowfall for 36 hours has paralysed everyday life in Chitral district. All road connections within the district and from Chitral to outside world have been severed as on Monday morning, while snow continues falling without a break.

In Chitral town most government offices and banks were scantily staffed and almost closed due to road closures, while electricity and telephone connections are severed for the most part. Mobile phones however continue operating, showing the power of private sector over government organisations. -- CN report, 23 Jan 2012
