Chitral -- The Syndicate of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal, Dir, in its meeting held on 25th July at the main campus has approved opening of classes in four selected disciplines at their sub campus in Chitral. Earlier sub committee of the Syndicate, which included the Principal Pamir Degree College , Garam Chashma, appointed by Governor KPK as Syndicate member representing private colleges in the jurisdiction of the University, selected a rental facility at Muldeh to house the campus till construction of permanent building for which land is being acquired.

Notice inviting applications for admission in 4 years B.S and 2 years M.S courses in Computer Sciences, English Literature, Botany and Zoology is being issued for 40 seats in each class. In his address to the Syndicate the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr.Jehandar Shah stated that he has fulfilled his promise made to the people of Chitral last year that he would open the campus, even if the elected representatives failed to intercede with the provincial government to allot land for the campus. Principal Pamir Degree College , Mr.Islamuddin, thanked the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor on behalf of the people of Chitral for taking special interest in the matter to bring post graduate education at the doorsteps of the people. He hoped that more departments will be opened to upgrade the sub campus to full fledged campus, as there are about 100 feeding colleges in Chitral. including more than 30 degree colleges.

After the meeting Syndicate members were taken around the campus to show them the extent of damage caused to the campus during the flash floods last year, when 30 % University land, including buildings of the University were washed away. If check dams upstream the two nullas and protective works along the Sheringal rivulets are not built in time, the University would face further devastation in case of more floods. The Syndicate members appealed to the government and local elected representatives to provide funds for the rehabilitation and protective works on urgent basis and ensure that classes taken in tents are shifted to rooms before the coming of the harsh winter season..-- CN report,
