Peaceful Chitralis forced into violence

 

Chitral -- Electricity consumers of Chitral town held protest rally through the bazaar forcing markets to close down followed by a public meeting at the Ataliq chowk, Chitral bazaar. The rally cum meeting was called by and presided over by Hayatullah Khan of Jang bazaar in which elite of the town besides thousands of power angry people participated.

 

Speakers castigated political leaders for their failure to solve the basic problems of people. It was unanimously decided by the meeting to give one week to the government to take away the Chitral power house from WAPDA and hand it over to SHYDO a provincial organisation.

 

Wg Cdr (r) Fardad Ali Shah speaking on the occasion echoed the demands of fellow protesters and said empty rhetoricians and false promise mongers should give way to genuine workers who honestly want to improve the real condition of the people on ground.

 

The meeting concluded with burning of thousands of unpaid electricity bills brought by the protesters for the purpose and vowed to continue the struggle with increasing vehemence until the power house was handed over to the provincial organisation SHYDO. -- CN report, 04 July 2011.
