Winter
tourists of Chitral !
Chitral -Weird looking beggars of Panjabi
complexion have been seen roaming in bazaars and
educational institutions of garam chashma, introducing
themselves as flood affectees of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is
weird because instead of coming here in good season they
have chosen the harsh winter. Most of them are
teenagers, 12 to 16 years of age. However, there is one
exception A popular Panjabi figure in his fifties, seen
here two years ago, has reappeared in Garam Chashma
bazaar selling cholas to school kids for Rs.20 per
plate which the local people consider as blessing in
this time of high prices. The local people are very
happy with this man and have resented the police
attitude for questioning him. They are not concerned
about his credentials as long as he sells them good food
at affordable price. This writer has not met him but he
is amazed over his popularity among locals and his love
for Chitral, where he now wants to settle in.
