Medical care
biggest pull down for Chitralis
Chitral-- Though, being a remote part of an underdeveloped and ill
managed country with galloping population, Chitral has it's own
unique problems. Having given up natural living for the quick and
readymade but unhealthy life style presented by modern day
developments, Chitralis are facing growing problems particularly in
the field of health and health care.
Getting used to artificial stuff of the bazaar, and fitting with the
Chitrali axiom "milk paik o che dalda gani ghario te bik". the
problems of ill health is becoming alarming in Chitral. The
government hospitals are inadequate and are still very expensive as
doctors implicitly refer patients to private clinics and they
have to buy medicines from open market which are formidably
expensive and often there are complaints that the medicines are
ineffective also.
One poor man talking to CN said he treated his wife for Rs
14000 between the local hospital and private clinics in Chitral town
and after achieving no result took her to Peshawar where she finally
recovered after my spending further Rs 5000.
He said he is now under Rs 20000 debt and doesn't know how to repay
it.
According to a
survey, a poor man in Chitral is pulled down by medical care
expenses and transportation costs followed by legal entanglements,
more than anything else and if affordable medical care is made
available to the poor people at least one and most important aspect
would be taken care of and their lives could brighten up.
