Peshawar--Chitral shocked Mardan in
the final of the 3rd edition of the Sarhad Games Inter-Region
Tug-of-War Championship by winning the trophy here at historical
Shahi Bagh.
Director General NWFP Sports Board Iltaf Umerzai was the chief guest
on this occasion who also gave away trophies, certificates and cash
prizes.
Associate Secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association Syed Azhar
Ali Shah, Secretary of the NWFP Tug-of-War Association and large
number of game spectators were also present.
Strong Chitral team first upset Peshawar in its first match and
defeated Mardan and Hangu by remaining unbeaten in the Championship.
The team of Chitral did not give much time to Peshawar, Hangu and
Mardan team and marched into victory. There were three pulls each in
which Chitral won all three against Peshawar and Hangu while Mardan
took the first pulls before losing the remaining three pulls.
Mardan also defeated Peshawar and Hangu and won runner-up trophy
while Peshawar took third position by securing victory against Hangu.
There were three teams battles comprising Chitral, Mardan, Hangu and
host Peshawar. At the end, the chief guest Director General NWFP
Sports Board Iltaf Umerzai gave away prizes.
During the event a selection committee has also short-listed players
to select NWFP team for the forthcoming National Tug-of-War
Championship to be scheduled on April 23-24 at Lahore.—APP
