Fake medicines & our responsibility -letter

 

 

If we lose our wealth, we lose nothing, If we lose our health, we lose something, If we lose our character, we lose everything. I am trying to write today not about material wealth which has become the goal and priority of everyone and character has been made a Byzantine enigma, but health which to some extent is in our own hands.

A major cause of increase in diseases and epidemics is our senselessness and unwitting trust on the so called methods of treatment and use of fake drugs. We are educated, active and to some extent enlightened members of global community. No one can deny the fact that we are bound with responsibilities first and then deserve rights.

US president John F Kennedy had rightly said that "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". We should therefore ponder over it. It was this cry of hope which mobilized the nation and made the US a global leader.

What I am trying to convey here is the role of public, however, might have been a serious crime to bypass and ignore leader’s statesmanship. Pakistan is a developing country stuck in a quagmire of problems and issues of global importance. Our local, provincial and central Government is dealing with the problems of crucial nature. It may have been said that they have no time for public. We should shoulder all these for the interest of our country first and then for ourselves.

The research report says that forty eight percent drugs in Pakistan are spurious and injurious to health. But I am really surprised to see Indian tablets in shops other than medical stores. Even I noticed educated people use them. If there are 48% our own unauthorized and substandard companies’ drugs, why blame Indians. It is the responsibility of the young geberation to watch for such crime. It is also responsibility of the state of Pakistan to punish such criminals.
