Shutter down
strike-
letter
Through the courtesy of your esteemed paper, I would like to invite
the attention of higher authorities towards the shutter down in
Chitral town for the last 4 days to press public demand to provide
electricity to the 8000 consumers of PESCO in the town. This is
higher deplorable that during the last 4 days higher authorities and
public representatives have paid no attention to the shutter down.
Traders Union and Driver Union have joined hand to continue more
drastic demonstration of anger and protest another 5 days.
It is pertinent to note that the problem of power break down is 10
years old problem. It was during the District Govt that the problem
aggravated to the highest level and the Nazim did nothing for
the town for 70,000 population. In July 2008, the incumbent MNA had
promised in a crowd at Chew bridge to solve the problem of power
break down in Chitral within 2 month, but he did not solve the
problem after the lapse of 2 years. Provincial Minister did nothing
despite his promises and posters. This is wrong to say that the
problem was created by snowfall. As a matter of fact, the problem
was there even before the snow fall.
This problem is not linked with the national grid. Chitral town has
its own hydel power house and 4 diesel power generators. The power
break down is not because of power shortage, it is just because of
mismanagement. Therefore 70,000 population of the town is supporting
the shutter down. The only way to call of the shutter down is
rehabilitation of old machinery in the power house and providing
diesel for running the generators. Had there been a will, this
problem would have been solved 2 years back.
Bashir Hussain Azad,
Chitral.
