Colonel Khushwakht ul Mulk’s longevity and good health is not a surprise
for those who are aware of his active life, both physically and
intellectually. I had heard many things about the colonel, but never had
a chance to meet him personally. Last year in September, I had a short
stop over at Mastuj on my way from Gilgit to Chitral. I paid a brief
visit to him and had a lovely Iftar dinner conversation with him.
Colonel Khushwakht ul Mulk received us at the door of his residence,
inside the Mastuj fort, and led us to the dinning hall.
I found him aged but a handsome pleasant personality with
an alert mind and princely demeanour. Our short conversation revolved
around Chitral, Pakistan and his posting in Singapore during the Second
World War. But what touched me the most was his special attention that
he extended to my little niece who was with me along with a group of
notables. The dream that he shared with us shows not only his alert mind
but also his inner peace loving disposition. I wish the Shahzada a quick
recovery and good health.
