Minister's empty threats -letter2

I partially agree with my friend Gul Jee, especially regarding the attitude of authorities in reference to the Mastuj bridge collapse. His point is valid up to some extent. In principal a temporary bridge was supposed to be built there to keep life going so the contractor could have taken his time to build the regular bridge following the standards, Unfortunately there is no culture like that in Pakistan and specially in Chitral. It is in our knowledge that the said bridge when collapsed the first time, there was a warning posted to offload vehicles crossing the bridge. When the second accident occurred, the bridge was under construction, and crossing the bridge with load was strictly prohibited with a sign in Urdu language.

Every one has to show responsibility, every one has to play their part in the development of nation. Saleem khan or other elected representative will never take serious action against contractors, because usually they are the guarantors of politicians success in the subsequent elections. It was neither Bermuda nor dragon triangle as titled by another writer on this topic, nor was it the sole responsibility of the contractor, nor we can put the whole garbage on the head of concerned department.

It is the fault of the system, attitude of us and our people. If there was fund allocated for temporary bridge, if any system existed to calculate life of an infrastructure, if the people had followed the sign on either side of the bridge, If izatmaan khawateen/hazaraat were not there among passengers to give threat to chawkidar or even to police man, if our driver bros had used little bit of their brains, not leaving it to mere 'tawakal', most probably our brothers from Mastuj and Gilgit would have been among us today.

The famous Chitrali proverb is appropriate to use in this kind of situation “ When we raise one finger pointing towards others, four fingers will be pointing towards ourselves. Until the current political system is there, until we commit violations of laws, unless social discrimination is there, nothing is going to improve. Keep surviving on 'tawakal'

Minister's empty threats -letter

This is with reference to provincial minister Saleem Khan's artificial warning to the Heads of various departments of Chitral last week in a meeting at the the governor cottage, regarding progress and development of different projects in Chitral.

Mr Khan is a simple and honest Chitrali person. He doesn't know the hidden kinks and tricks of the bureaucracy. Unfortunately, in my beloved country (Pakistan), 80% of the people within this community are morally uneducated, characterless, disbelievers, morally blinded and deaf. In the Constitution of Humanity (Holy Qu'ran), Allah says: "they are deaf, dumb and blind so they return not (to the right path)" (Al-Baqara: 18). This Holy Surat truly points out that those kind of people who are appointed for the well being of others and are being paid huge amounts, are on the contrary, involved in huge scale bribery and are making black money from different sources.

As an example, a month ago, in Mastuj, three innocent lives were lost due to the collapse of a bridge. This bridge collapsed twice within a month; how shocking! Who is responsible? Where did all the money which was paid for making a strong bridge go? Who used cheap material to construct the bridge? Where were the all the responsible officials. Who was the contractor of this project?

If Mr Saleem Khan means business with his warning, he should come forward and handcuff the responsible officials and the contractor who committed such a heinous crime only then will the people of Chitral and families of the deceased take him seriously and be proud of him.
