Chitralis disapprove Clock tampering -letter3
I have read a letter written by Mr. Khalid Tamton
Colorada USA dated 20-04-2009 regarding ""Chitralis
disapprove Clock tampering". Mr. Khalid has defended
the advancement of clocks and said that it will save
the energy.
Muhammad Shafeeq,
Chitralis disapprove Clock tampering -letter2
This is with Reference to the news report and subsequent letter by Mr Khalid Tamton on the subject, I would like to submit that theoretically the idea of daylight saving by advancing the clock sounds very good, but in effect when tried out twice earlier it has proved to be a nuisance instead of serving any useful purpose.
Unlike the western countries, in Pakistan the day lengths during summers and winters do not vary as much to warrant advancing/retarding the clock arms. At most, office timings could be adjusted in April and October.
If advancing the clock would have been beneficial, other countries in our region, including India, would have adopted it long ago.
Given our literacy rate and the already existing plethora of controversies with us, we should at least desist from creating new and avoidable ones.
I strongly believe we should not follow the west blindly in this respect. We should instead respect our own geography and refine our ways/work ethics etc, which will bring positive results instead of toying with the clock imitating Europe and America. Otherwise the old Urdu idiom of "kawa chala hans ki chaal, apni chaal bhi bhool gaya", will apply on us.
Faridul Haq, Chitral. 21 April, 09.
Chitralis disapprove Clock tampering -letter1
I am a
regular visitor to 'Chitral News' and enjoy its
reporting. 20 April, 09. Chitralis disapprove Clock tampering
CHITRAL 18 April 09: Like last year, the advancement of clocks by one hour to save daylight hours has created the same old confusion. Two parallel times are visibly running in Chitral at this time, one in the government offices and the other with the rest of the population. Mosques all over Pakistan including Chitral are adamant on not meddling with their clocks. Government officials make the best of this change coming to office according to the old time and leaving according to the new time thus comfortably shaving off two hours off duty time, courtesy the confusion of daylight saving. At a time when the nation needs cohesion and solidarity, the wise advisors of the government have invented this ridiculous move to further escalate divisions and aggravate the prevailing confusion -or is it a well thought move to divert the people's attention away from the real issues?, is any body's guess--(CN report)
