What a 'Half
Time' ! -
letter
Half time at Shandur Polo festival on 9th July was a full time public
address adventure. In Polo half time means 15 minutes or 20 minutes rest for
players and their horses. At Shandur it was a different story. At “half
time” public address system was facilitated for the meaningless speeches of
8 VIPs from 4 different political parties with every one trying to score his
own point.
Two speakers belonged to Muslim League Q, one speaker belonged to
Jamaat-e-Islami, two speakers belonged to Pakistan Peoples party and three
speakers belonged to Awami National party. It was a co-incidence that non of
them had a substantial point to make in the speech. Even then each one took
10-12 minutes to talk empty rhetoric.
I suggest that half time should be spared from such boredom, and such
speeches if at all necessary should be made after the final whistle of the
match when poor spectators will disperse and the speakers will have all
liberty to speak on matters related to hell or heaven. I humbly
request that half time be treated as half time in the game and not
full time in boring political speeches.
