Bank doing a unique business
-letter2
This is with reference to a letter published in Chitral News, titled 'Bank
doing a unique business' dated 03/06/08 by Ali Akbar Khan from Torkhow. The
branch of Habib bank in Torkhow valley is the only bank having the facility
of fax machine and has been providing free service to all the account
holders as well as non account holders of the area. A lot of young people of
the area sent their documents without any charges. The above cited writer
might have any personal differences with the bank staff, that is why he
distorted the image of the bank and the staff by putting up a baseless
allegation. The writer of this letter has several times used the fax
facility from the bank and but never paid any kind of charge to the bank.
The people of entire Torkhow valley are indebted for the cooperation of the
Habib bank branch and we hope that the bank and its staff would not be
disappointed by the baseless allegation and continue their support and
corporation with the poor people of this far flung area in future.

Bank doing a unique business
-letter
We have known banks to earn profit by lending and borrowing but the branch
of Habib Bank at Shagram (Torkhow) has evolved a unique way of making
profit. Due to the unavailability of fax machine in the area the people go
to the bank to send urgent documents (educational etc) to
Chitral or other cities. The bank staff exploits the poor people by sending
a single page for 100 Rs which otherwise costs less than 10 Rs for example
when someone goes to Chitral City and sends it from there.
The same charges are for receiving a page. It is an irony that it does so
being a subsidiary of the AKDN well known for its services to the poor
people. It would have been a blessing for the people if the service was
available at a reasonable cost.
Ali Akbar Khan
