Booni facing water problem -Letter

The rapidly developing town of Booni, the headquarter of upper Chitral is facing a severe water problem.  Due to severe cold in winters the government managed 30 years old pipeline becomes blocked and bursts regularly. The villagers dig and light fires upon the pipes to defreeze them and then rebury them in the spring season.

Every year in the months of June and July floods of Booni Gole washes away these pipelines. Thus, the people of Booni are compelled to drink expensive bottled water and many people go to springs located three to four kilometers from their homes to fetch drinking water. The institutions and hotels working in the town carry water loaded in vehicles from Kuragh some 10 kilometer away from Booni.

The people are compelled to use muddy water for cooking and cleaning purposes and for their animals in the four months of summer and snow melted water in winter, for these purposes.

The unhygienic water badly affects the health of people of Booni. It gives a ghastly impression to tourists and newcomers at Booni.  The patients are facing great problems due to non-availability of potable water in hospitals.

The civil society organizations of Krujanli Booni approached Aga Khan Planning and Building Services (AKPBS) Chitral through Biyar Local Support Organization (BLSO) for provision of potable water and the project have been approved. The AKPBSs Water and Sanitation Extension Programme (WASEP) is providing technical and material help with the financial support of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund.

The civil society organizations members were so obliged that they started work in severe cold weather and  have dug a distance of 68000 feet from  water source to village water tank on self help basis.

The people of Kruijanali especially the women segment are very gratified to BLSO, AKPBS and PPAF for helping them in solving the greatest problem of the village. The villagers especially thanked the Manager AKPBSP Mr Karam for his interest in the project.Manager BLSO Mr. Shujaat Ali visited the site praised work done by the members of civil societies.

The people of Booni are also waiting for the government water project for them announced by authorities some four years back. They are also demanding to use the benchmark of WASEP and SRSP in selection of pipe and ensure the standard four feet underground digging for installation of the pipes.

Sher Afzal,

Mobilink in Booni -Letter

The people of Booni are thankful to Mobilink for starting its service in Booni. Hundreds of people are being seen talking on mobile phone. The people are also happy as they consider it a single source of communication with other people when heavy snowfall and sever cold broke all the communication links of people with each other. It is obvious, that services of PTCL become worse in Booni and surrounding areas due to severe cold and heavy snowfall in winter season

Shamim Shujaat,

Did you know ? Cats, camels and giraffes are the only animals in the world that walk right foot, right foot, left foot, left foot, rather than right foot, left foot.  ....Thankyou for visiting 'Chitral News'
