Misbehavior at Peshawar airport -letter
Through your esteemed publication I would like to draw the attention of PIAC authorities towards the ill treatment of passengers at Peshawar Airport. I was traveling on PIA Flight Pk 662 for Chitral on 17th August 2007. When I reached PIA counter to fulfill necessary requirements, I faced embarrassment when PIA official at the counter used undignified language against me and other passengers. The PIA official at the counter was very rude and curt. I had to face public humiliation at the hand of this official in front of the crowd.
PIAC was once an Airline respected by the people due to the good behavior of its officials. Its public image was high and people took pride in traveling with PIA. PIA offered good facilities to its passengers and charged little. Its officials were friendly and treated passengers in a dignified manner. It was loved and respected by all people. It was long before and all that is over now.
Now PIAC is on the verge of collapse. It is now the most notorious Airline. Now rampant corruption, rude officials, poor service, high charges, bankruptcy are characteristics of PIAC. It has lost its good public image and reputation of PIAC is very low in the eyes of public. That is why it suffers from financial losses instead of earning good profit. I think the rude behaviour of its officials is one of the many reasons behind the downfall of PIAC. Its motto ‘Great people to fly with’ has been replaced by ‘rude people to fly with’.
It is very strange that PIAC do not arrange any orientation programmes and refresher courses for its officials. Such programmes and courses will help its officials improve their behavoiur and attitude towards general public. Those officials who are mainly concerned with public relations/dealing should be given special instructions to demonstrate public and friendly behaviour with the people. Such incidents show that highs officials of PIAC have lost their control over the lower ones and every one in PIAC acts independently, which is a matter of great concern.
Chitralis are famous for their peaceful nature. They are not quarrelsome and act in a dignified manner. Chitralis have been traveling on PIAC since 1960’s, but had no complaints till recent past. Now PIAC is exploiting the people of Chitral for the last few years and people have registered their protests against it on several occasions. PIA charges more than 2000 per passenger but offers very poor costumer service. Now it is time for PIAC to think over it.
