Power outages in Chitral Ironically, despite the availability of huge water resources suitable for the generation of large megawatts of electricity, only one hydro-electric power generation station was set up at Reshun in upper Chitral in five decades with an expected capacity of 4.2 megawatts. Even after many years of its commissioning, it is still generating 1.8 MW of electricity. The powerhouse is not working efficiently. Its infrastructure for the transmission and distributor of power is in bad shape. The high tension and low tension poles are badly damaged as a consequence, people are made to suffer badly due to the frequent outages and the recurring breakdowns. The responsibility for this gross neglect lies on the shoulders of the Sarhad Hydel Development Organisation (SHYDO).

The public of the area has had enough of Shydo's negligence and appeals to the government to intervene and direct the authorities concerned to urgently improve the power generation capacity of the Reshun power station and also to streamline its transmission and distribution systems.
