Pensioner's letter to the President -letter

Sir,

I'm an old Scouts pensioner from Chitral, still struggling at 89 years age. When I retired in 1961, I was getting Rs 50 as monthly pension, but could make both ends meet with that amount. Now my pension has progressively increased to Rs 1200 per month but this amount is not enough to sustain me even for three days. You keep on talking and giving examples of economic prosperity, but pray if it does not reach me, how can I believe it?.

Inflation has run amok now. It is a form of extremism. What are you doing to control it. How I remember is that price increase (if at all) used to be yearly at the time of the budget. Now there is increase in the price of basic essentials every few days. Pray What is this ? There is no war going on in the country nor is there any other calamity, then why this unbridled inflation. In fact we are getting aid and help from outside like never before and have abundance of NGOs etc . Why then is the poor man being pushed against the wall ? You want me to believe the country is progressing. How can I believe  that  when I'm desperate to barely survive and make both ends meet. Pray, Mr President, tell me, I want an answer.

Subedar Mehboob Alam,

Veteran Pensioner,

Jughoor, Chitral.
