Mobile phone tower hazards

CHITRAL, 26 June 08: There is a great rush for erecting mobile phone towers in Chitral and the city's erstwhile clear skyline is littered with ugly steel structures in the form of mobile towers. All the big cellular companies have landed here and are engaged in a race to capture a rapidly growing market, ahead of others. Due to good compensation by the companies, Locals are showing much enthusiasm about installing cell towers in their premises, at times right in or around their residential compounds. The towers in many cases have not been erected strongly enough to withstand high intensity earthquake jolts, an ever present possibility that cannot be overlooked in the seismic zone.
