CHITRAL,13 May 08: District coordination officer Kamran Rehman Khan has
imposed ban on purchase, cutting and exporting of walnut trees in the Kalash
valleys of Rumbur, Birir and Bumburate in exercise of powers under section
144 Cr. PC here on Tuesday. In a notification issued here on Tuesday, he
said that some non-local traders are involved in purchasing, cutting and
transporting walnut trees in large scale against payment of exorbitant
prices to the poor owners and it is causing unrest among the Kalash
community. The cutting of walnut trees also causes environmental pollution
and disturbs the local peace and tranquility, the notification says. The
order shall come into force at once and will remain in vogue for two months
while those found violating the order will be dealt with under section 188
of Pakistan Penal Code
Chilim Jusht begins: CHITRAL,13
May 08: The famous Kalash spring festival chilim jusht started here on
Tuesday in the three Kalash valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumbur where
merry-making has started with the young girls and boys singing and dancing
in groups, locals said. The festival is celebrated to welcome the arrival of
spring season in the valleys and continues for four days, they said. Local
and foreign tourists are approaching here to participate in the festival.
Two provincial ministers Syed Aqil Shah (Tourism) and Salim Khan (Population
Welfare), are reaching the valley on Wednesday, as special guests.- (by
