MNA supports LG
system abolition move
CHITRAL, 25 April, 08: Chitral MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin spoke in
favour of a move tabled in the National Assembly on Thursday,
demanding abolition of the Local Bodies system.
MNA Barjees Tahir moved a motion in the NA seeking winding up
of the District Government system, which according to him had added
to the corruption and mismanagement at this grass-root tier of
government.
Taking part in the debate on the subject, a number of members spoke
on the flaws of the system, which had failed to bring any relief to
the masses and just added to the mismanagement and chaos.
The other who spoke on the subject included Mir Hazar Khan Bejarani,
Mian Manzoor Wattoo, Amir Mukam, Ms Farzana Raja, Shahzada Mohiuddin
and Salahuddin.
Majority of the members of the house had pointed out the flaws in
the system and said that this new system of governance at grass-root
level had opened news doors of corruption and nepotism.
They demanded immediately suspension of this system and reversion to
the old system of municipalities at grass-root level.
However, some of the members from Opposition benches not only
supported the system but also stressed that it should continue as
for the first time in the history of the country the people at
grass-root level were empowered at such a large scale.
Meanwhile, The parliamentary party meeting of the ruling coalition
on Wednesday approved Rs ten million as development funds for every
MNA to be spent before next fiscal year starts. All the members have
been asked to submit their development schemes by April 30, said
parliamentarians. (CN report)
