CHITRAL, 15 April 08: There are 1500 Markhors, 6000 Chakors and 27 snow leopards in Chitral district, according to the Divisional wild life officer Imtiaz Hussain. He said foreign hunters pay US$ 15000 -18000 for hunting one Markhor and US$ 3000 for hunting an ibex. Chitrali Markhor is one the rarest species of it's kind he said. Snow leopard also is a world wide attraction as it is also a rare specie. He lamented that deforestation was telling on the wild life and needs to be checked effectively.--(GH Farooqi)
