Gallantry award for Chitral DPO

CHITRAL, 23 March 08:  'Sitara-e-Shujaat' was conferred upon district police officer Chitral Sher Akbar by the president of Pakistan on Sunday at a ceremony in Islamabad. He was awarded for the gallantry he showed on 27th January 2007 in Qissa Khwani bazar Peshawar while boldly facing terrorism on the occasion of Muharram. He is the only surviving police officer of the incident in which capital city police chief Malik Saad, and DSP Khan Raziq and an SHO lost their lives in a suicide attack when they were examining the security arrangements and measures for the Ashura-e-muharram. A suicide bomber had blown himself up on the occasion. Sher Akbar was then DPO Peshawar city and sustained serious injuries and remained under treatment for eight months before being posted to Chitral. (Zahiruddin)
