Lowari tunneling in full swing

CHITRAL, 21 July 07: Tunneling of the Lowari pass continues in full swing and the project is likely to be completed before time. 3.3 Kilometers of the total 8.9 Km tunnel has already been excavated including 752 meters excavation from the Chitral side which was started last year.

Originally conceived, pursued and practically put on ground by the late Ataliq Jafar Ali Shah MNA and Fed Parliamentary Secretary in 1974 during the Govt of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed, the tunnel is being constructed at the same place and according to the same design, which goes to prove the time old adage that 'an investment in goodness never fails'. An understanding between the workers and the administration has been reached with respect to certain demands of the workers which included enhancement of their wages to bring them at par with those on the Dir side and providing the workers certain security regarding service terms and conditions. Light through the tunnel is likely to be seen within the next two years (God willing)  --GH Farooqi
