Toyota jeep falls into river:
A Toyota jeep fell into Chitral river
near chew bridge. Eye witnesses saw the jeep flying off the road
into the river and drowning. Details of casualties are

Two die in Torkhow road accident:
A Toyota Jeep met with an accident in Shagram
Torkhow near Village SheerJully, while coming back from Chitral
on a Routine trip. The Toyota was laden with fire wood and two
persons was on board who died on the spot due to severe head
injuries. Both the deceased belonged to Shagram area.--(Dr Saeed

Four year boy survives vicious flood:

June 26,2010: A four year old boy
survived despite being swept one kilometer by the ravaging flood
which killed thirteen people in Chitral town on Thursday. The
boy lost his mother, father, brother and sister in the same
sweep but himself came out unscathed. Similarly a dog and a
rooster came out of the rubble of a house alive when every thing

OCWA announces Rupees one lac aid for
flood affected:
26 June 10: Overseas Chitralis Welfare Association
Dubai, has announced an amount of Rs. one Lakh aid for the flood
victims of Uchusht village of Chitral town. The amount will be
distributed soon by the reps of OCWA it was stated in Dubai.--(Jalauddin

Students to avail travel discount:
CSWO has announced that they have succesfully negotiated a
20 percent discount for students travelling from Islamabad to
Chitral in Coasters. President Saiful Islam, Gen Secy Asghar Ali
and SVP Salim negotiated the concession with Crystal Lines
coaster MD Usman Ali. Students must approach the cabinet members
of the organisation to avail the discount, the handout said. --

Scouts lift CM polo trophy:
17 June 10: Chitral Scouts team lifted the Chief Minister
polo trophy by beating Mastuj 10-1 in a thrilling final match at
the Chitral polo ground witnessed by a large number of polo
fans. Shahzad Ahmad of Chitral Scouts was declared the 'man of
the match'. Chief minister who was expected could not come due
to bad weather. DCO Chitral was the chief guest on the

Popcorn machine burst kills one:
17 June 10: A popcorn machine burst killed one person and
injured another in Istangol village about 20 km north of Chitral

CSWO oath ceremony
15 June 10: CSWO (Chitral Students Welfare Organisation)
cabinet oath taking ceremony was held in Islamabad. MNA Shahzada
Mohiuddin administered oath to newly elected president Saiful
Islam and his cabinet. Qazi Fazal Illahi was nominated patron of
the organisation. Beside former presidents, Ex MNA Nawabzada
Salahuddin, Qari Buzarg Shah Al Azhari, a large number of

Chitrali girl dies mysteriously in
Abbottabad
12 June 10: A girl named Asmaan Pari resident of of Shishi
Koh died within one month of her marriage to one Irshad of
Abbottabad. .In laws of the girl say that she died due to
illness while parents of the girl claim that her in-laws
murdered her. Report to the effect has been launched with the

Overseas
Chitralis Welfare Association Dubai, has announced scholarship
program for Chitral based students of science category. Rs 30,
20 and 15 thousand will be awarded to the first three position

Drosh rally demands release of Gujjar
leaders:
11 June 10 A protest rally cum public meeting was held at
Drosh bazaar. demanding release of Gujar community leaders Inzar
Gul and Sher Muhammad arrested on charges of being involved in
firing incident on MNA few days back. The meeting presided over
by Qazi Abdul Rauf was addressed by Alhaaj Khurshid Ali Khan,
Muhammad Shifa, Abdul Bari, Abdul Saboor, Mufti Mahmood, Noor

Firing on MNA condemned:
08 June 10 A meeting of elders, workers PML(Q) and family
members of MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin was held in Drosh in which
they condemned attack on the MNA few days back terming it an act
of terror. They demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

08 June 10 Shahzada Major Khush Ahmed Ul Mulk's
contribution towards protection of environment and promulgation
and promotion of horticulture was acknowledged by the KP

MNA survives land dispute firing :
03 June 10 MNA Chitral Shahzada Mohiuddin escaped unhurt, when his room
where he was staying in Shishi Kooh valley was fired upon.. The
MNA had gone to the area along with the concerned officials and
a police contingent to take possession of land and forest
which he had won in the supreme court. litigation and the firing
was carried out by the rival party who are Gujars.. --(GH

School bus topples, injuring students :
31 May 2010: Bus carrying students of the Langlands school fell of the road while
going to school at Dolomuts Monday. A number of students were

Bazar bypass road plan to be actualized
30 May 2010: Administrative action for acquiring land for Chitral Bazaar Bypass road
has begun with imposition of section 4 and 5 of land acquisition
act.. Meeting a delegation of affected land owners including Wg
Cdr (r) Fardad Ali Shah, Maj (r) Ahmad Saeed, former Nazim Riaz
Ahmad, Aliyar Khan etc, DCO Chitral assured that fair and
transparent procedure would be adopted for land acquisition and
the road would be made to the highest standards. The delegation
thanked the government for actualizing the long over due bye

Weight gain medicines usage increases dangerously:
20 May 2010 The use of weight gain medicines is increasing alarmingly
specially amongst the youth in Chitral. Found in many medicine,
general and homeopathic stores, these unbranded powders and
pills contain harmful steroids which wreck the health after

18 May 2010.A one day seminar on women rights in property was organised
by LAPH and YDCO. Liaquat Ali Khan was chief guest on the

Woolies out in Chitral, as country sizzles:
16 May 2010. Jerseys and jackets were pulled out in Chitral town after a
short rain spell on Sunday, when the southern parts of the
country were sizzling at 50 degrees centigrade in places. In
Kafristan valley where many tourists have gathered to witness
the closing day of Kalash Chilam Jusht festival, the temperature
was really cold. This year temperatures in spring have been

Two die in Shishikooh Jeep fall:
10 May 2010 Two persons died and nine were injured when a jeep going from
Drosh to Madaklasht toppled at Shishikooh. Those dead were identified as Ameer Shah s/o Qalandar
Shah of Madaklasht and Kotani s/o Rashid of Shishikooh. The
injured are Khaliq Zaman, Mrs Sher Zaman, Shafqat Hussain, Adnan

07 May 2010 One person Abdur Rehman r/o Maskor Ayun was killed by
neighbours over a water dispute. Police arrested Noor Muhammad,

Three die in road mishap:
06 May 10:Three persons died while another four were injured as a jeep
fell into the river at Damel Arandu. The dead were identified as
driver Muhammad Zubair and Jameel residents of Dir, whose bodies
were recovered from the river while body of Rahmat Wali resident
of Kotai is still missing. the injured are Nadir Khan and Nawab
Khan both of Dargai,Bakht Mohammad of Malakand and Syed Ibad of

Load shedding curse, on again: 03 May 10: Unannounced loadshedding stretching upto many (undefined)
hours continuously has again struck Chitral after a month long
respite due to running the diesel generators at the power house.
As summer is approaching and power requirement is going to
increase, People have demanded resumption of diesel generators
operations and immediate commissioning of the dual line
conjoining the Reshun power & national grid power to the town,

Chitralis demand tunnel immediate opening: 28 Apr 10 As no work is going on on inside the Lowari tunnel it is
cruel to keep it closed for traffic and condemn travelers to
dredge extra three hours of worlds most torturous route over
10500, by being denied the usable tunnel for no worldly reason
except antipathy towards peoples problems. Chitralis have
demanded from the Govt and NHA to immediately open the tunnel
for traffic and keep it open until work inside the tunnel

Supreme court decision implemented: 25 Apr 10: The decades old legal battle between descendants of late
prince Burhan uddin and some residents of Seen Lasht resulting
in Supreme Court's final decision in favour of the former party
was finally executed, leading to handing over of the disputed

Convict commits suicide 25 Apr 10: One Hazrat Nabi of Balach Chitral, who had murdered an
employee of the Met department in October 2008, hanged himself
to death at the Haripur jail, where he was serving his

Poor internet service irks users: 23 Apr 10: PTCL internet service has deteriorated grossly and slow
browsing and frequent disconnection problems have increased
lately. Some customers say it is being done purposely by the
PTCL to increase it's revenue through this foul method of
disconnections and slow browsing so that people stay more online
and reconnect frequently after facing forced disconnections.

Drosh protesters disperse after administrations assurances: 30
Mar 10: Hundreds of protesters who had blocked the Drosh Chitral
road for six hours demanding release of arrested protesters,
withdrawal of cases against them and operation of the Shishi
hydel power house dispersed when they were assured compliance of

Three arrested for pro Taliban speech: 30 Mar 10: Three persons including JUI (F) leader Qari Jamal Abdul
Nasir, Abdul Haq and Zahir Khan were arrested and sent to jail

Quadruplets born

Damel, at the Drosh Tehsi hospital.The two boys two girls

Body of avalanche victim retrieved after two months. 28 Mar 10: Dead body of Muhammad Din resident of Dir who had died under
avalanche in Ziarat on February 15 along with 6 other persons
was recovered on Sunday. Social and political circles have
appealed to the government and philanthropists for compensation

girl students suffer food poisoning: 28 Mar 10: Forty girl
students including two teachers of a seminary 'Jamia Mohsinat'
Chitral town, ended up in the hospital suffering from gastro
enteritis after eating a feast meal .It is suspected that

Restaurants fleecing travelers 24 Mar 10:Way side restaurants are known to fleece passengers with
connivance of public transport drivers. One such case is at
Moroi on Chitral-Mastuj road, where public transport drivers
stop their vehicles at 'Canal View' restaurant and hungry
passengers have no option but to eat there. Taking undue
advantage, the restaurant management provides substandard food
at high prices. There should be a check from the govt side on
prices and standard of food served in these road side

Two Indian illegals arrested
: 24 Mar 10: Two Indian citizens namely Ayaz Ahmad s/o Hafizullah r/o
Mumbai and Nasir Ahmad s/o Munawwar Khan r/o Gujrat India were
arrested by Chitral police for being here without requisite visa
documents etc. DPO Chitral confirmed the arrests. Interrogation

Chitral Police included in Special Allowance beneficiaries : 21 Mar 10: MNA Shahzada Mohiuddin at a press conference in Peshawar said
the nwfp Govt has included Chitral in the category of recipients
of Special Allowance for police force which means an SP would
get Rs 6000, DSP 5500, Inspector 5000, SI 4500, ASI 4000 and

Five injured in road accident : 19 Mar 10: Five persons were injured in a road accident at Mogh Garum

Stray dogs multiply in Chitral city:
18 Mar 10: Stray dogs are multiplying in the bazaar area of Chitral town
due to negligence of the concerned authorities to eliminate
them. Rabid dog bites are also witnessed but hospitals lack anti
rabies vaccines. Inquiry should be held into the negligence and

'Loaners' happy with PM announcement: 15 Mar 10: Prime Ministers revised economic package for NWFP envisages
the write off of loans including micro finance loans in four
districts including Chitral. People having taken loans are
happy, particularly those who had loans from Micro Finance bank
but were first disappointed when they were not included in the

Islamabad-Chitral bus service:10 Mar 10. A 22 seater coaster service from Islamabad to Chitral has
started from Islamabad (Karachi company). The management is
trying to overcome teething problem of such a new service which
when regularised will be a big blessing for Chitralis living in

One dies in Terich as Jeep falls into a ravine: 08 Mar,10: One person died while another was injured as a jeep veered
and fell off a cliff road into a ravine in the outpost village
of Terich in Mulkhow Tehsil. Names were not ascertained till

Traders union protests Electricity crisis: Chitral
26 Feb,2010: Traders Union Chitral launched a protest campaign by
announcing three day shutter down strike in Chitral town Bazaar.
Addressing a protest meeting, trade union President Habib
Hussain, AC (r) Sardar Muhammad Khan, PML (Q) Gen Secy Eid ul
Hussain and others demanded immediate restoration of electricity
to Chitral town and said they would stage a weeklong sit in in

Snow leopard devours goats, hunts Markhor: 18 Feb,2010: A snow leopard has hunted a Markhor at the Tooshi game
reserve in the outskirts of Chitral town. as reported by the
wild life department. Mean while locals told Chitral News that
the sow leopard has also devoured two goats in the area.
Unprecedented snow at this time of the year has brought down
wild life including Chakors to lower altitudes, in search of

Lowari road reopens:
11 Feb 10: Snow slide at the southern side of the Lowari tunnel kept the
road closed for three days, was reopened on Thursday. Meanwhile
Chitralis have demanded an increase in Tunnel opening timings to
six hours daily from 10 am to 6 pm. and seven days a week

book form named 'Thoron' was launched at a ceremony here

Chitrali boy amongst six arrested in Lahore?: 09 Feb 10: A Chitrali boy Mohyuddin alias Saifullah is amongst six
persons arrested in Lahore for allegedly planning to blow up a
five star hotel. However the boy alleged as the 'would be
suicide bomber' in the group, was shown on TV, but did not
appear much Chitrali by his appearance and accent.--(CN report)
Heavy snow paralyses Chitral: 08 Feb 10: Rain starting Friday evening turned into heavy snowfall and
by Monday morning whole of the district stands paralyzed. Roads
leading to Upper Chitral and side valleys stand blocked.
Electricity as usual is nowhere to be seen and telephone and
mobile services are disrupted. People are confined to their
houses and no traffic can be seen in Chitral Bazar. There is no
contingency plan with any government or non government
organisation to deal with such situation which is becoming too

Rain, Snow, again, Electricity goes again: 07 Feb 10: Rainfall in Chitral again starting Friday night turning into
snowfall Sunday morning in Chitral town, has severed electricity
line coming over the Lowari pass since the first few drops of
rainfall.. It is ironical that every year (the inconvenience not
withstanding) money spent on maintaining this line is enough to
upgrade the Chitral town electric station. or even construct a
new one. At the first few drops of rainfall the electricity line
coming from down country to Chitral (bringing coal to New
castle) breaks down and then there is complete power denial to
the town for the next days/weeks.--(CN report)
NDU team visits Chitral: 04 Feb 10: National Defence University team including foreign trainee
senior officers paid a four hour long visit to Chitral Thursday
