Shandur Polo: Chitral trounce Gilgit

CHITRAL, 09 Jul 07: Chitral polo teams maintained a clear supremacy over their arch rivals Gilgit in five out of six matches that were played at the Shandur polo festival. The final match was witnessed by Federal ministers Ghazi Gulab Jamal, Jahangir Tarin, Ishaq Khaqwani president of International Polo Association, foreign and local tourists and a large segment of polo fans from Chitral and Gilgit.

Chitral captain Shahzada Sikander ul MUlk was the star player of the final match who gave his team two precious goals while the third goal was scored by another senior member of the team Sub Maj. Maqbool Ahmad.  Chitral players displayed better team work compared to the Gilgit players who preferred individual long shots but came bravely back in the game to score two goals towards the closing end. Monetary rewards were announced for all the teams participating in the tournament.  (GH Farooqi)
