Sonoghor threatened to obliteration

CHITRAL, 03 Jul 07: Sonoghor village known for it's natural beauty, crystal clear streams, mouth watering fruit and mesmerizing ambience , the kind about which the Mughal Emperor Babur had exclaimed "Agar firdaus bar rooay zameeN ast,  hameeN ast, hameeN ast, hammeN ast" ( If there ever is a heaven on earth, behold, it is this very place). Sonoghor is virtually under the threat of being obliterated from the map.

The glacier overlooking the village which burst few days back has flooded  major part of the habitation washing away houses and making people flee their homes in anguish. Scores of houses and other buildings have been washed away and the wooden logs of these houses can be seen floating in the floody Chitral river. Rescue operations at a modest scale are being carried out by the agencies and no loss of life has been reported. The larger part of the glacier which is intact is now considered unsafe by the locals as the hotter season untill august threatens recurrence of the glacial flood any time.

Chitralis are very sad about the thought of loosing a Shangri-La like Sonoghor and say "Sonoghor ghechhawari hoi".
