Career counseling sessions held
AKES, P Chitral in an effort to create awareness among the students about future career paths, organized two career counseling sessions one each at the Govt. Centennial High School Chitral and G.D Langlands Model School Chitral.
The career guidance session at the Centennial High School was taken with the students of class 8 and 9 wherein more than 50 students were briefed about career planning and options.
A similar session was also organized for the students of class 10 at G.D. Langlands Model School wherein 32 students attended the session.
The Senior Programme Officer, Career and Communications, AKES, P Chitral, Saifuddin while talking to the students on both the venues said that if a student plans his/her career at the early stages of his/her higher studies, choosing a suitable career path becomes easy which leads to a prosperous and happy life. He briefed the students about the career planning process which involves certain steps. First of all students need to do self assessment which allows them to identify their interests, aptitude, values, skills, strengths and weaknesses. Once a student knows about himself/her self then comes the second stage. In the second phase the student identifies educational options which are followed by identifying academic institutions. The last step of the career planning process is financial planning. The applicability of a career plan largely depends upon financial planning.
The presenter also talked about goal setting. He said that every student must identify his/her short term and long term goals but the goals must be SMAT i.e. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, and Time bound. The sessions were followed by Q&A sessions.
Mr. Zohran Shah, the AGM of AKES, P Chitral while talking to the students at Centennial High School emphasized on the role of students in the development of the area. He said that today’s student is tomorrow’s leader. He further said that do not take leadership as something unachievable. He said that majority of the Chitral leaders of today are the ex-students of this school. He gave the example of the batch of 1972 when he himself was a student of this school and said that almost all the students of that batch are now serving the nation and the area in higher positions so why not you? He said that he has high hopes from today’s generation and he was certain that they will come up to his expectations.
Similar sessions will be organized for the students of Drosh. It is pertinent to note that AKES, P has recently completed its 100 years of providing education to the marginalized communities. It runs 51 regular schools and 66 community based schools in the district of Chitral. Apart from that it has been instrumental in providing scholarships to the needy but meritorious students under the Female Human Resource Development Programme. So far it has distributed more than 271 scholarships to the female students of Chitral.
