Court orders UC polls recount

CHITRAL, 13 Jun 07: An election tribunal ordered re-counting of votes in Union Council Shagram. The result of polling for the Union council Nazim in 2005, in the said constituency had shown both the candidates obtaining same amount of votes (998 votes)  but the subsequent toss result had declared Abdul Qayum Beg as the winner. However the runner up Nasir Alam maintained that his request for recounting of the votes was not acceded to by the returning officer, which he said was his right. The point to note is that it took almost two years for the tribunal to decide recounting in the constituency, when half the tenure of the UC is over. (Mian Mehboob Ali Shah)
