CHITRAL, 25 Apr 07: A number of councilors including lady councilors held a walk and staged a symbolic protest outside the town hall Chitral Wednesday. The councilors were demanding due authority as promised by President Musharraf in his devolution program. The councilors demanded the Rs 2000 monthly honorarium which the president had promised them five months ago. They said the Nazims were having all the authority and were being paid salaries whereas the people expected the councilors also to be functional and of use to them. The protesting councilors warned if their demands were not met by 5 May, they would bring about no confidence motions against the Nazims and escalate their protest. (Bashir Hussain)
