A farewell party for Shahzada Sikander-ul-Mulk, the ex-tehsil nazim mastuj sub division, was jointly arranged by the people of Booni and Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), which was attended by dignitaries, political leadership, professionals, community representatives and general public.

To begin with, Tehsil Officer Revenue (TOR) appreciated the worthwhile leadership qualities of the ex-nazim that simultaneously contributed to enhancing the capacity of the administration and improved the standard of services for the general public. He lauded the merit-based utilization of the meager funding coming to TMA. “His approach to resolve UC problems was always directed by need and urgency never to be influenced by party affiliations whatsoever. As nazim, it was always his motto to serve needy people with transparency, meritocracy, hard work, efficiency and voluntarism as his guidelines”, he said.

Mirza Alam admired the ex-nazim for the competent way of running the administration marked by voluntarism ranging from restoration of electricity to help the affectees of washeej and sonoghor villages.

Addressing the gathering Sikander-ul-Mulk maintained that transparency and accountability have to be made an inalienable part of our political career. Without the passion for voluntarism and self-discipline, it is unlikely to materialize the ideals of community welfare.

When we assumed responsibilities as nazim, there was MMA government in the province, who did not wish to establish working relations with local bodies which negatively impacted our performance.

Sikander-ul-Mulk termed the system of local government an ideal one and thanked President Parvez Musharaf for devolving political power to the lowest tiers with a mission to empower communities at grassroots. He impressed upon the present government to restore the system of local bodies immediately as it has certainly been helpful in highlight grave community problems at village level that could never have been surfaced otherwise. MNAs and MPAs are ideally expected to formulate laws at province and federal level whereas problem resolution lies with councilors at UC level. But no effort to understanding this philosophy was made so far.

He thanked TMA Mastuj staff for extending strong cooperation during his tenure as nazim and showed his determination to continue voluntary service for people irrespective of his political position.

Zafarullah thanked Sikader-ul-Mulk for setting a brilliant precedence for the future nazims by putting a halt to unhealthy practices and streamlining financial administration. “We salute him for he has promoted the traditions of transparency, meritocracy and accountability during his career as nazim”, he said.

Miftahuddin, Assistant Coordination Officer (ACO) Mastuj said that TMA will seek the advice and support of the ex-nazim to ensure sound decision-making in future.

Afzal Ali, the veteran politician, who presided over the session, said that Sikander-ul-Mulk was noted for promoting the politics of well-being, social cohesion, voluntarism and service for people. It is hoped that he would continue his support development of people in the upcoming years.--(Shamsuddin)
