CHITRAL, 08 Oct 09: 'Kerry Lugar bill', the latest buzz on the national media has been, also a center of discussion in shop talks and time whiling gossips in Chitral. While many just reject the bill and when asked why so, they say because their so and so leader says so. 

Some others who read papers and listen to TV talk shows try to debate the issue. Those opposing the bill say it is an infringement on the sovereignty of the country, while those supporting the bill say we are already devoid of sovereignty because of the interference of so many countries in our internal affairs just because they give us money, so why should we oppose the Kerry Lugar bill which is the first aid package which at least ensures audit of the aid money and its spending on development programs.

Some say if we are so sensitive about sovereignty we should reject all kinds of aid including military aid from all countries and try to stand on our own feet.  But doing so is not easy as it entails implementing strict austerity measures which translates into 'sacrifice' from our leaders, a word which does not exist in their dictionary.--(CN report)
