16 Prisoners released from District Jail Chitral: Chitral, 19 Sep 08: Additional Session Judge Chitral Aurangzeb Khan, during the jail visit on the direction of  District & Session Judge Bashir Khan, released 16 prisoners who were involved in petty cases. Besides Additional Session Judge,  Senior Civil Judge Amjad Makhdoom and Civil Judge Ijazur Rehman visited District Prison Chitral and listened to cases and complaints of Prisoners. The learned Judges inquired from prisoners and decided their cases there and then. They issued orders releasing 16 prisoners from jail on the spot (GH Farooqi)

Main Booni Road blocked at Reshun: Chitral, 19 Sep 08: Main Booni Chitral road has been blocked at Reshun after flash flood on Thursday. Source told that flood also damaged a girls school partly and blocked main Booni road at Reshun village as a result thousands of inhabitants of Mastuj are besieged and their land route has been disconnected. Residents of Tehsil Mastuj have appealed to the Provincial government for releasing of funds to restore traffic on Booni road. (GH Farooqi)

 

Meeting recommends Jashn e Chitral cancellation:  Chitral, 17 Sep 08: A meeting chaired by the District Nazim and participated by the DCO, officials, representatives of political and religious parties and elite recommended cancellation of Jashn e Chitral scheduled to be held from 11 Oct. Some participants including MPA upper Chitral, Tehsil Nazim upper Chitral and President District Bar Association were in favour of holding the festival while majority of the participants maintained that security situation in the province did not favour holding of any festival at this time. The district nazim later told this correspondent that he would recommend to the provincial government to cancel the festival in light of the recommendations of the meeting.--(GH Farooqi)

 

UK paraglider injured: Chitral, 17 Sep 08: A British national, Bowel Rupert, sustained serious injuries while paragliding here on Tuesday. Sources said that the British national was paragliding at a height of 14,000 feet at Mulkhow in upper Chitral, along with American and Spanish paragliders, when a strong wind hit them as a result of which the British national failed to maintain his balance and fell to the ground. He was taken to Aga Khan Hospital at Booni in precarious condition from where he was removed to Islamabad by a helicopter. -- (Dawn)

 

Pakistani seeks recovery of daughter from Afghanistan: CHITRAL, Sept 16: Shah Nawaz Khan, a resident of Rumbur village of the Kalash valley has appealed to the government to help recover his daughter Shazia from the clutches of abductors who had taken her to Nooristan in Afghanistan. Talking to newsmen at Chitral Press Club here on Tuesday, he said that some years ago Hafizullah married his daughter but soon after he started persecuting and harassing her.  He alleged that Hafizullah and his daughter’s in-laws kept her in virtual confinement and did not allow her to meet her parents and brothers for more than two months against which he moved a local court which got her freed and handed her over to him. Shah Nawaz said that he also filed a suit in the court seeking termination of the marriage to save her daughter from her abnormal husband and cruel inlaws. Shah Nawaz expressed concern about the condition of his daughter in Afghanistan.  He said that though some relatives of the accused had been arrested by the local police and sent to judicial lock-up, but his daughter continues to suffer at the hands of her abductors. He demanded that the government should contact the Afghan government to seek the release of his daughter. --(Zahiruddin, Dawn)

 

PPP activist criticizes MNA joining PPP : Chitral, 15 Sep 08: President PPP municipal area and political secy to provincial minister Saleem Khan, Bashir Ahmad has strongly opposed the intention of MNA Shahzada Mohyuddin to quit PML(Q) and join PPP. He accused the MNA of having a political record of changing loyalties for personal gains and said his joining the PPP when it is in power is also with similar bad intentions. He urged upon the party high command not to accept him in the party otherwise the party will never be able to recover from the blow. --(BH Azad)

 

Two girls die due to drowning : Chitral, 15 Sep 08: One girl student drowned in the  river at Jughoor village of Chitral town, Sunday evening. In another unfortunate occurrence, a girl student of fifth class fell off to her death while trying to cross a temporary bridge between Mastuj and Sarghuz. --(BH Azad)

 

Mastuj Telephone Exchange out of order: Chitral, 14 Sep 08: Thousands of consumers are facing problems due to the Mastuj exchange and wireless network being out of order for the past over one week. Inhabitants of the area have appealed to the high ups of the PTCL for restoring communication system in Mastuj area. --(GH Farooqi)

 

Kalash girl converts after elopement: Chitral, 14 Sep 08: A teenager Kalash girl Din Nizar from Rumboor village of Kalash valley embraced Islam after eloping with and marrying her Muslim boy friend Abdullah of Ayun. The kalash population is reducing day by day and less than 3000 of them are now surviving precariously in the three valleys. --(GH Farooqi)

 

Ground Breaking Ceremony of Football stadium maintenance held: Chitral, 14 Sep 08:  Ground breaking ceremony of maintenance of Football (parade) ground of Government Centennial Model High School Chitral held here  Commandant Chitral Scouts Col Suhail Iqbal was chief guest on the occasion while the ceremony was presided over by Samad Gul Executive District Officer (EDO) Schools & Literacy Chitral. Tehsil Nazim Sartaj Ahmad Khan and Muhammad Hussain Former president District Football Association also spoke on the occasion. --(GH Farooqi)

 

Shishi kooh valley road blocked: Chitral, 11 Sep 08:  Shishi kooh valley road has been blocked due to flash floods. Councilors and notables of the area have appealed to the govt to clear the road at the earliest. --(GH Farooqi)

 

Price hike lamented: Chitral, 11 Sep 08:  Inhabitants of Chitral have complained of price hike of essential commodities in the local market and they have demanded from the authorities to check the market on a daily basis to control the unjustified price hike --(GH Farooqi)
