Jashn-e-Chitral from October 11-15

PESHAWAR: NWFP Minister for
Sports, Culture and Tourism, Syed Aqil Shah, Monday said Jashn-e-Chitral
would be held with traditional zeal and enthusiasm from October 11 to 15.
Programmes of tourist interest like tug-of-war, cultural music, poetry,
traditional Chitrali dance and adventure tourism events and Chitral youth
football Mela will also be included, he said.
This he said while presiding over a review meeting about arrangements for
Jashn-e-Chitral in Peshawar. Besides others, Secretary Sports NWFP Sahibzada
Fazle Amin, Director General Sports NWFP, Altaf Umerzai attended the
meeting, said a handout.
Aqil said NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti would participate as the
chief guest of Chitral Youth Football Mela and distribute prizes among the
players. General Manager of Sarhad Tourism Corporation (STC) Mushtaq Khan
informed the meeting that STC would introduce new track at Kalash valley as
well as trout fishing competition for tourists on the occasion of Jashn-e-Chitral.
It might be the second big tourism event in NWFP after Shandur Mela. An
organizing committee under the chairmanship of secretary for tourism was
constituted with Muhammad Ali Shah as its organizing secretary while GM, STC,
Director General Sports NWFP, a representative of NWFP Sports Department,
two representatives of STC have also been included in the sub organizing
committee established for arrangements on the occasion.
Syed Aqil Shah directed secretary for tourism and organizing secretary of
the committee to present a detailed programme about Jashn-e-Chitral 2008
within a week time. The minister said the players participating in the mela
should not exceed 25 years of age. He said NWFP Football Association would
provide technical backup on the occasion of mela.
Syed Aqil Shah said a tourism resort would be developed at Thandiani,
Abbottabad while Information Centers at various places of the province would
also be set up. He said for holding the next Shandur Mela 2009 in a
befitting manner, work would start from March next year and the road linking
Chitral and Shandur would be widened while road from Chitral to Garam
Chashma would also be repaired and widened..
