Gahiret Dam; An excellent possibility
CHITRAL, 04 July 09: Asaqal Nasir Ali Shah, a prominent social figure and former secretary to the Mehtar of Chitral, has suggested to build a dam at Gahiret bridge on the river (30 km south of Chitral town) which will produce enough electricity to not only satiate Chitral but can be exported down country to help in alleviating a countrywide power shortage. He said the proposal was actively considered during the British time but was shelved after independence. Counting the advantages of constructing a dam at the proposed site, he said, it could be done at a minimal cost as on one side was solid rock and the place naturally made for a small dam. He said minimum amount of land inundation/displacement would occur if a small dam is made at this site. He said we should think of all possibilities and avail God gifted opportunities to solve our problems. --(CN report)
