ZC budget presented

 

CHITRAL: The annual budget of the district government for financial year 2009 was presented on Friday, volume of which is Rs928.200 million with a major component of Rs877.772 million going for non-development expenses.

District Nazim Maghfirat Shah presented the budget before the house for approval which was presided over by acting convener Amirullah Khan.

The district nazim said that only Rs6 million rupees had been allocated for repair and maintenance of roads, Rs13.508 million for repair of schools and Rs4.345 million for purchase of essential paraphernalia for schools.

He said that strengthening of the parents-teachers councils (PTCs) would be given priority during the year to ensure the participation of parents in the school affairs to augment the quality of education.

He said the education department got the highest share which was Rs26.861 million. The district nazim said for the first time Rs1 million had been proposed for disaster management.

He proposed to sponsor the educational expenses of talented but needy students on college level, award stipend to the first three position holders of matriculation examination at the district level.

Chitral DCO and executive district officers of different devolved departments attended the session which was adjourned till Saturday to open discussion on the budget proposals.--(Dawn)
