Happy at 96

 

CHITRAL 14 June 09: Colonel Shahzada Khushwaqtul Mulk, one of the most senior surviving officers of the armed forces of the sub-continent (PA 35),  celebrated his 96th birthday on 13 June, with the same positive attitude that has marked his almost century long life span. Incidentally he is nicknamed 'Khush' by his friends which means happy.

 

Old timers were specially invited to the party which was attended by his friends and family members.

 

The Colonel, a graduate of the Indian Military Academy Dera Dun (1935),  held several important portfolios in the Indian (later Pakistan) Army. He was the commandant East Pakistan rifles with the honorary rank of Brigadier in 1953. He has also been the Governor of Mastuj in the state government when his elder brother was the ruler of Chitral, because of which he is commonly known as 'Mestujo Governor'.

 

After retirement the Colonel was associated

with various welfare organizations including 'Brookes hospital for Animals'.

 

The 96 year old former officer is known for

his benign thoughts, harmless and helpful attitude, because of which he has always been liked by the common people during all his life.

 

On his birthday when he was asked by this correspondent, what message  he wishes to convey to the young generation, he promptly responded by saying "Love of God and respect for humanity is my message to the younger generation". --(GH Farooqi)
