Zardari orders airlifting of seeds to Chitral
The News
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed
annoyance over the authorities failure to heed to
SOS calls of Chitral parliamentarians for immediate
supply of wheat seeds to their area for the timely
sowing of the crop.
'The president was shocked to learn in a recent
meeting with federal and North West Frontier
Province (NWFP) lawmakers at the Aiwan-e-Sadr that
the Chitral area was not provided with wheat seeds
on time despite requests from the legislators of the
area,' a participant told The News. He said that
these legislators complained to Zardari that despite
their repeated calls for the timely supply of the
seeds, none spared time to help.
The source said the president promptly inquired from
the participants, including at least two federal
ministers, about the redress of the complaint.
However, none of them had a cogent reply for the
inaction, he said.
The participant quoted an angry Zardari as saying
that the wheat seed must have been airlifted to
Chitral so that it would have received it on time if
its supply was delayed for any reason.
The president directed that there should be no such
complaints in future and said there was no point in
supplying seeds after the sowing season had passed.
Meanwhile, hybrid seed that China has agreed to
provide to Pakistan would increase the wheat
production with less consumption of water. An
official said that during his visits to China,
President Zardari had detailed discussions for the
provision of hybrid seed to Pakistan.
