Kalash girls convert, marry Muslims

CHITRAL 08 June 09: Three Kalash girls belonging to Rumboor valley embraced Islam to get married to Muslim boys. The girls namely Chungi Gul, Shahi Zar and Bushra Gul announced their conversion in the All Muslim Ayun village, located at the entrance of the Kalash valleys. Marriage of the first two mentioned was solemnized to Muslim boys Rahman Nawaz and Sohail Ahmad respectively. Meanwhile Kalash community elders have expressed anguish over the high rate of conversions Typical Kalash girls -Internet photo and expressed fears that if the trend  continues Kalash religion would soon be obliterated from the face of the earth. --(Firdous Khan)
