World tourism day observed
CHITRAL 02 June 09: To celebrate world wide day for
responsible tourism a Seminar was held organized by
Chitral Association for Mountain Areas Tourism (CAMAT).
Commandant Chitral Scouts Col. Sohail Iqbal was
chief guest on the occasion while the ceremony was
presided over by Major G.D. Lingland Principal of
G.D. Langland School and College Chitral. Amongst
the distinguished guests was 96 year old veteran
Col. Shahzada Khushwaqt ul Mulk. Speakers
presented their thesis on water resources and
tourism. They defined
They recommended that to promote tourism industry in the country all Government rest houses and guest houses must should be open for tourists with nominal charges as well as historical houses and prominent buildings also be open for tourists with charging entry fee to promote tourism and to compensate the owners of the building which causing for preserving our cultural heritage. They said that different programs should be broadcasted through FM radio to promote and tourism and to motivate the people. Commandant Chitral Scouts offered all trekkers and expeditionists that they would be entertained at Chitral Scouts posts situated on hill stations.
Professor Mumtaz Hussain briefed the stakeholders in his presentation regarding responsible tourism and water pollution. He said that there is acute shortage of potable water and we should to preserve and save it from polluting.
Ibrahim Wali representative of World Wide Fund for nature (WWF) presented his theses on No tourism without water. Saleem Kamil Subject Specialist read his theses on Role of Responsible tourism in provision of potable hygienic water. Principal Maula Nigah read his theses on Role of responsible tourism in preservation of water resources. Muhammad Ali Manager Sarhad Tourism Corporation explained main objectives of tourism to promote and uplift country socio-economic.
Muhayuddin Kroch strongly criticized the Tehsil Municipal Administration Chitral, for failing to carry out it's duty of disposing off garbage and litter. He said due to negligence and inefficiency of the TMA, Chitral City has turned into a garbage dump.
G.D. Langland also expressed his views on the occasion. The speakers stressed upon to improve tourism industry and to aware masses regarding importance of tourism for uplifting country economy as tourism play vital role in promoting life standard of the masses and boosting country economy. --(GH Farooqi)
