Lowari Tunnel work should resume immediately

CHITRAL, 16 May 09: People of Chitral have bitterly criticised the decision of NHA to suspend work on the Lowari Tunnel until 30 May. People living around the tunnel area and other relevant sources when contacted by Chitral News felt that the NHA has over reacted to the security situation. They said that there was no unbearable security situation near the tunnel area. Heavy contingents of the FC, Scouts and Police in many hundreds, were already guarding the tunnel and its workers specially foreign consultants round the clock, so there was no need to stop work and flee the place.

'Chitral News' learned through informed sources that two crore rupees per month were being paid to the foreign consultants alone, besides lavish perks and privileges extended to the personnel, so they would not mind work suspensions or delays,  but those who are affected are poor people of Chitral who are the  high end sufferers paying double the actual price, for almost every item in the market, due to the Lowari pass nuisance. --(CN report)
