Shop breaking incidents increase

Chitral 29 Aug 08: The number of shop breaking incidents have increased in the last couple of months. Cases have been reported where criminals have broke open shop locks or cut away the shutter of shops in Faizabad, Seenlasht and Chitral bazaar and made away with cash and  valuables. The incidents invariably happen at night and rarely is a culprit apprehended.

People attribute the increase in cases of shop breaks to the rising cost of living, lack of confidence in the state as a social security provider and absence of resources to pull along an honest living.

Residents of Chitral town have demanded from the law enforcing agencies to increase their vigil particularly during the month of Ramazan when traditionally such cases show an increase. Residents have also demanded wide publicity of the punishment given to such culprits if and when they are caught. -- (CN report)
