Drinking Water Project Ground Breaking held
Chitra; -- On the occasion of ground breaking ceremony of KFW funded
Urban Drinking Water Project to be executed by Aga Khan Planning and
Building Service, Pakistan ( AKPBSP) under Water and Sanitation
Extension Programme ( WASEP) in partnership with beneficiary
communities of Singoor, Tiro Gole, Seen Lasht and Dulumuch, Salim
Khan. Provincial Minister has urged the people to get maximum
benefit from the NGOs for the development of their areas. He said
that the government could not meet the needs of all the people due
to its limited resources and therefore the NGOs compliment the
development work of the government. He thanked all the NGOs
including AKPBSP for initiating a project for providing drinking
water to the 700 households in the city area of Chitral. He
announced a grant of Rs. one million to the cluster organization for
the purpose of digging.

Speaking on the occasion while presiding over the function, Mr.
Rehamatullah Wazir District Coordination Officer, Chitral said that
due to increasing population, the water brought from Angarghoon to
the town 20 years ago was not enough to meet the increasing needs,
therefore, the additional water was very essential for the area. He
thanked KFW and AKPBSP for starting this project. He said after
completion of Golen Gole and this project, the problem of shortage
of water for the city area would be solved in the coming years. He
assured the community that local administration would extend all
possible support in implementation of the project.
Earlier, Mr. Shah Karez, Regional Coordinator of AKPBSP KFW Project,
Chitral briefed the participants about the contributions made by
AKPBSP. He said that AKPBSP has provided drinking water to 67,000
population in 104 villages in remote areas of Chitral over the last
two decades.
Mr. Sher Zaman, the chief representative of the cluster organization
briefed the participants about the process of forming village
organizations and the problems faced by the communities. He appealed
to the Minister and DCO Chitral for helping the cluster in
completing the project. He also thanked the Minister and DCO Chitral
for their support provided to the cluster in the initial critical
time.
It may be noted that this 26 km long project will benefit over 600
households and the water would be brought along with Garamchashma
road.
Among others, who participated in the function were: Mr. Salim Khan
Programme Manager, WASEP, Mr. Afsar Ali, EDO Planning and Finance
and notables representatives of cluster and notables of the area.
At the end, Mr. Muhammad Karam Area Manager, AKPBSP, Chitral spoke
on the occasion and thanked Mr. Salim Khan, Provincial Minister for
his participation and support. He particularly thanked the DCO
Chitral, Rehmat Wazir Khan for all time support and keen interest in
making this project a success. Besides, he thanked the Xen of C&W,
SDO, Maqbool, Xen of Public Health Engineering Department and
officials of WSU, TMO for their support in starting this project. He
also thanked representatives of the cluster and notables and Prince
Riaz for their participation and support.
After the function was over, Minister Mr. Salim Khan and DCO Chitral
and other people participated in the ground-breaking and prayers
were offered for the success of the project.
