Afghan
intruders on 'sheepjacking' spree again
Chitral-- Almost 540 goats and sheep belonging to Kalash community
of Chitral were again snatched by thirty-seven armed Nuristani
robbers in bahuret high pasture in Bomborate valley on 15th August.
The robbers have also dragged away two Kalash shepherds with them.
Meanwhile 52 foreign heavy armed men in army uniform have encircled
another high pasture of oyon namely Otak located in the same valley.
According to report in this particular pasture 5 shepherds and
almost 400 sheep and goats are kept under possession. The families
are concerned, that the robbers could use the shepherd as human
shield if there was any action taken by Pakistani forces based in
Shekhanandeh some almost 20 kms away from line of control. It is
beyond understanding of common man that why such a vast area beyond
Shekhanandeh is left free for movement of enemy. This is second time
within 15 days that, Similar types of robbery has occurred in a
valley which is under close observation of both Pakistan army and
hundreds of paramilitary forces. The attacked areas are hardly at a
distance of 2 to 3 kilometers away from the army and scouts. An army
official in informal discussion with this scribe said "we need lot
more facilities to enable us to control such incidents". In the
previous attack Chitral police under the command of DSP head
quarters played important role in releasing both animals and
shepherds.-- report by Dr. Khalil
