Down with Inauguration plaques
Dear Sir, Through your
esteemed
news site, I would like to point out a very negative
practice that is prevailing in Chitral. I mean the
culture of inaugural ceremonies and inauguration plaques
on projects which at times are smaller than even the
ceremony itself. In Chitral you can see the roads
and walls of government buildings littered with boards
and plaques saying the project was inaugurated 'badast e
Mubarak izzat maab' so and so, etc.
The matter of fact is that the project was funded and
undertaken with government funds which is the duty of
the government and right of the people and the mentioned
'izat maab' who happens to be in responsible position
then may have at best squandered some money out of these
public funds. What is the justification of putting up
somebody's personal name on a government project. In no
civilised country personal name of the dignitary,
is mentioned on plaques of government projects. At most
only designation is mentioned. Here we find funny
plaques saying so and so i'zzat maab' through his 'dast
e mubarak' inaugurated the electrical wiring of a
government building or the white washing of a building
etc.
I suggest that a ban
should be put on inauguration ceremonies and specially
plaques with personal names. The reason for my demand
is, these plaques become eyesores and the
dignitaries of the succeeding government make it a point
to have negative attitude towards the said project
because of the displayed plaque of a potential
adversary. I also request to remove all existing boards and
plaques on government projects bearing personal names of
any individual in any position.

While endorsing all the
points raised in the subject letter, it reminded me an
incident of a few years back, when that time District
Nazim and MNA both claimed they had solved the
electricity problem of Chitral town by installing a
powerfull transformer at Jutti lash grid station. In the
morning Distict Nazim went there to inaugurate the
transformer with security and photographers and same day
the MNA went there with the same protocol. Both
congratulated the people for this big success and took
the credit that this was possible due his sincere
efforts. I don’t know whether both ordered to put a
plaque of their name or not?, but to my surprise
electricity shortage problem worsened in Chitral town
immediately after inaugurating this mystic
transformer with pomp and show..--

Farid Ul Haq is right
about his comment of using the words "Badast-E-Mubarak
Izzat Maab" in Inauguration Ceremonies. This everybody
knows that in Pakistani Politics they are in the chair
for a short period and many of these ministers and
leaders are involved in corruption and after end of
their party government go to prisons for corruption. The
question here is why we hang their name in Government
Properties for half century with "Badast Mubarak Izzat
Maab". "Izzat Maab" is a big word and should be used for
people who build public projects with their own money
and resources and not public representatives who use
public money which has been half squandered. --
